Swami Vivekanand

”A hundred thousand men and women fired with zeal of holiness, fortified with eternal faith in the Lord, and nerved to lion’s courage, by their sympathy for the poor and the fallen and the down-trodden will go over the length and breadth of the land, preaching the gospel of salvation, the gospel of help, the gospel of social raising up, the gospel of equality.”

It was the dream of swamiji which is an inspiration to all of us, inspiration to come out of self centered circle of life, inspiration to practice the principles of Tyaga and Seva - Renunciation and Service, inspiration to work for the better cause of humanity. After all, what is life ? Is it just the money, the physical comfort or just earn, enjoy and die ? NO ! It is something beyond that.

His first exhortation to man in general and to Indians, in particular, was to

”Wake up from the tamasic slumber of ages, to realize the strength and divinity within us which is our rightful heritage; and out of this profound knowledge and experience, to evolve a philosophy of life which combines intense mental activity meant for self unfoldment and realization with incessant physical activity, totally delinked from one’s own self motivations, resulting in the benefit and welfare of the Society.”

This message of Swami Vivekanand is an inspiration for Vivekanand Seva Mandal.

Swami Vivekanand was a spiritual genius of intense intellect and power. He was born in 1863 in the Datta family of Calcutta. Swami Vivekanand was one of the first indian philosopher, who had spread the Vedanta philosophy and religion in America and England. He had also accepted an opportunity to represent Hinduism at Chicago’s Parliament of Religions in 1893, where he was an instant celebrity in America. Lastly in my words, It is an honor for me to be born in a country where philosopher like Swami Vivekanand was born.
