12th January, Dombivli
A man’s lifespan is not counted by the number of years he lives but the years for which his thoughts and teachings stay alive in public memory. This was proved yet again and closely experienced by the karyakarte of Vivekanand Seva Mandal while organizing book-stalls put up across the city on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti(National Youth Day). The Vivekanand Seva Mandal volunteers and the visitors as well, were no less surprised to find the thoughts afresh and young.
In an attempt to spread the work of Swami Vivekananda and encourage youth to follow his teachings, book-stalls were set up at three prime locations in the city:
Commencing at 10am, the stalls received overwhelming response in the morning as well as evening with a tepid afternoon. No soonerthe banner was put up in the morning, than people began to swarm in. After setting up the stalls, ‘Pratima Pujan’ was performed by karyakarte (volunteers) and people present around.Every stall atleast had 3 karyakarte at any point of time. Around 75 differentbooks ranged the gamut from childhood stories of Vivekananda attracting toddlers to spiritual, ideological and patriotism-instilling books attracting all others. Youth as well as elders took deep interest in visiting the stalls, interacting with volunteers, knowing more about our organization etc.
Finally drawing the shutter down at 9 pm, happiness and satisfaction of serving the purpose behind book-stalls was quite palpable on faces of the karyakarte. The volunteers had wonderful experience catering to more than 300 strong quality audience.
