VSM has been striving to provide early, systematic assistance to underprivileged children who are subject to poor educational infrastructure so that they complete their education at least till SSC. Apart from lack of educational facilities, these students face problems at financial and household front as well. Our SSC guidance camps in November 2016 and January 2017 contributed to the performance of these students which was reflected in the recent SSC results.
We also understand that after the completion of SSC exams, a building of a career is vital to stand up on one's feet. Unfortunately, lack of guidance on higher education and career opportunities are a major barrier for tribal students, preventing them from reaching the right opportunity at the right time. Hence to help such tribal students aspire beyond SSC exams, last year Vivekananda Seva Mandal started Project Kshitij which conducts Career Guidance Camp at Ashram schools.
This year, on 16th April, Career Guidance Camp was organized at Andaad Madhyamik School, Shahapur. Total 40 students attended this session. Attendees are from Andaad school and Swami Vivekananda School, Chindyachi wadi where Vivekananda Seva Mandal has been conducting SSC Guidance Camp from past 5 years. This year we had two speakers- Major Madhav Mhaskar and Mr. Subhash Kolpate. Our SSC Guidance teacher-Prof. Vinita Phadke introduced us with Major Madhav Mhaskar.
Major Madhav Mhaskar (M.Sc- Geology) is a retired army officer. He has served 10 years of life in the various sections of Air force army. He guided about Indian army and various career opportunities in it. Using PPT he explained about qualification criteria, physical fitness and educational criteria for both boys and girls after SSC and HSC. He motivated students by stating study hard, and work hard and once when you get into Army all things will be paid off.
The second speaker was Mr. Subhash Kolpate, who is a professor at ITI, Andheri.; A well-known and motivational speaker who knows everything about ITI fields. He told students about technical fields after SSC and its different stages like worker, supervisor, and manager. He also informed students about educational criteria and explain about trades, how to select it, most demanding trades and detailed information about online procedure and documents required for the admission. Beneficiaries got detailed information about courses and career opportunities after SSC. Also, they received printouts of detailed information about nursing, teaching, and Social worker courses.
The main aim of this project Kshitij is to provide career guidance and counselling so that students know their own skills and professional interests in order to choose a relevant career. VSM successfully connected tribal students with SSC guidance camp and Career guidance camp so that students could bridge the distance between today’s choices and tomorrow’s dreams and goals.
