Project Description

"KHOSTE", A village situated in Shahapur Tehsil of recently carved Palghar district, which is just 90 km away from Mumbai and close to Mahuli fort. Its population is around 100, having a school up to 4th standard, where about 50 students study.

Students above standard 5th go to a nearby village, which has a school up to 8th standard. The main occupation of village folks is agriculture, where they normally grow rice. Some of the villagers also cultivate vegetables that they sell in nearby markets. Some of the farmers are enterprising and recently have started Mogra (Jasmine) floriculture, which has improved their income a bit.

This place was visited during Runamochan Bhet 2014, where problems of villagers were discussed by VSMandal volunteers. The village school was in a need of a computer for giving hands on training to students. Also students told us that they face problem of studying at their homes. VSMandal addressed this issue by offering to set up a study center.
This was followed up by:

  • Donating a computer during the Runamochan Bhet.

  • Started reading room facility for the kids.

A set of textbooks from 5 to 10 standards has been kept in reading room for their references. Currently 15 children are using this facility. Also two of the senior students help all the kids with their studies.
